THE FINE ART OF ART COLLECTING documentary series is for anyone who already loves contemporary art, or who just wants to learn more about it. Our program will bring viewers up close and personal with the major players of the L.A. art world, and with art that is being made in Los Angeles today.
For the last 10 or 15 years, contemporary art and collecting have become increasingly hot topics, and increasingly big business. The contemporary art scene is changing and growing - there are new artists, new ways to exhibit, and a whole new breed of collectors. The art world is also becoming more democratic; even individuals with a limited income can now collect and enjoy the benefit of living with art.
A lot of this art revolution is happening right here in Los Angeles. With the highly publicized opening of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA earlier this year, L.A. is finally starting to be taken seriously as a force in the contemporary art world.
In addition to practical collecting information weaved throughout, THE FINE ART OF ART COLLECTING will allow the viewer to share unique experiences along with class participants – making our program a treat not only for committed art collectors and enthusiasts, but for anyone who is keen to learn about the contemporary art world.
While there are thousands of books and quite a few extremely popular websites, we know of only a couple of series about contemporary art, and no other film, video or TV show specifically about contemporary art collecting.
The booming contemporary art audience is hungry for more information and no book can begin to offer the experience our series will provide – personal discussions with museum professionals, gallery owners, artists and private collectors – all guided by a passionate and knowledgeable expert who has devoted his life to getting people excited about art.
